On May 9, 2009. The Wrending Talons, a team of veteran birders, is completing in the 2009 World Series of Birding
on behalf of Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey. The World Series of Birding is an annual 24-hour contest
to identify as many species as possible, either by sight or by song.
Our team members Margaret Atack-Klewin, Matthew Klewin, Angie Walters, and Buster Raff concentrate their birding activities in Atlantic County.
The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) of Pleasantville, New Jersey, generously partners with Conserve Wildlife Foundation
to support this team of birders. Sponsorship by the ACUA enables the team to contribute all the funds they raise to Conserve Wildlife Foundation.
This year former team member Joe Delesantro (far right) is competing in the digital photo category of the the competition. In this
category, participants identify and photograph as many species as possible in a 24-hour period.
Please lend your support to this great team of birders who are volunteering their time and special talents to help Conserve Wildlife Foundation
protect New Jersey's rare and endangered wildlife.
Birds are especially vulnerable
to loss of habitat and environmental changes. They make up
nearly 40% of the animals identified as threatened or
endangered in New Jersey. Your donation to our World Series
of Birding team will help:
• Provide protection for New Jersey’s fragile
bald eagle and peregrine falcon populations;
• Build nest boxes for ospreys and kestrels;
• Conduct vital research to determine the future of
our migrating shorebirds;
• Monitor vulnerable nest sites for piping plovers,
least terns and other beach nesting birds;
• Protect critical habitat for songbirds whose
numbers are declining rapidly; and
• Provide a future for more than 70 species of our
state’s endangered and threatened wildlife.
You can also donate to support the team through the Network for Good by taking this link (and placing "World Series of Birding" in the comment).
