Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey is pleased to co-sponsor a series of Get Outdoors! events with New Jersey Parks and Forestry and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Join us for a wet and wild search for life in Lake Nummy. This program will explore the animals that live in the waterways at Belleplain State Forest including insects, frogs, turtles and fish. Participants will be introduced to life cycles, food chains and how the creatures that live in the water can tell us how clean it is.

Registration Required. $10 parking fee per car. Meet at the Interpretive Center.

Get hooked on fishing as a family and create memories that last a lifetime. Meet at Hooks Creek Lake in Cheesequake State Park to learn about the basics of freshwater fishing, cast for prizes and fish at the lake. Participants will also get to make a fish-stenciled tee shirt.

Suitable for families with children ages 10 and up.

Join us for a series of one-hour, naturalist-guided hikes. Choose from a variety of theme-based hikes, including Sensory Awareness, ABC Arboretum, Forest Discovery, Swamp Life, Bluebird Trail, Forest Products Loop, Firewise Trail, Insect Ecology and Wildlife in the Changing Forest. And don’t forget to visit the “Talking Trees.”

Suitable for families with children of all ages. Scouts badge requirements available.

Come and celebrate Great Outdoors Month at High Point by exploring the ridge top with the park naturalist, and then continue your explorations on your own using High Point's new Discovery Packs. Each pack contains an assortment of tools and field guides to help you explore and discover on your own as well as a take-home discovery guide full of fun outdoor activity ideas, resources and suggestions for how to use the tools contained in the pack. Packs must be returned to the Interpretive Center by 4 p.m.

Suitable for families with children ages 4 to 10.

$10 per car entrance fee to the park.

"X" marks the spot! Join the park naturalist on a fun and exciting treasure hunt with a modern twist. Learn all about the popular activities of Earthcaching and Geocaching, adventure games for GPS (global positioning system) users, and enjoy finding one of the park's caches with your family. GPS units will be available for you to borrow, but if you already have one please bring it. Please bring a small trinket to leave in the cache.

Suitable for families with children ages 7 and up.

The Eastern Bluebird is making a comeback in New Jersey thanks to you. Bring your favorite grown-up to help you build more bluebird boxes to place in the park. Volunteer to monitor the boxes throughout the year and stop invasive species from using them.

Lighthouses and lighthouse keepers have stood guard over New Jersey’s dangerous coastline for hundreds of years. Learn about the unique relationship between the lives of the lighthouse keepers and the natural environment – such as the weather and the changing seas. Measure wind speed using a wind turbine, spot ships approaching the harbor through telescopes and climb the south tower into the lantern room.

Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey is pleased to co-sponsor a series of Get Outdoors! events with New Jersey Parks and Forestry and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Sand, fire and water – these are the three main elements that have shaped the unique ecology of the New Jersey Pine Barrens ecology. Learn about the foundation of sand and gravel, through the predominant dry sandy uplands so prone to and dependent upon wildfire, to the vast reserve of freshwater below ground that most of the regions rare plants and animals depend. A 20-minute indoor presentation will be followed by an outdoors exploration of the landscapes, plant life and animals of Wharton State Forest.

Suitable for families with children ages 8 and up.

Meet at the park office, Batsto Village, Wharton State Forest.

$5 per car entrance fee to the park.
