Get Outdoors! – and Geocache in New Jersey's First State Forest

Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey is pleased to co-sponsor a series of Get Outdoors! events with New Jersey Parks and Forestry and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Join members of the South Jersey Geocachers as they provide a short introduction to this exciting new twist in treasure hunting, and then help participants find hidden “caches” throughout the forest. Learn about the nature and history of the forest along the way. This adventure game is a fun way to mix technology and the outdoors. GPS (global positioning system) units will be available for borrowing, but if you already have one please bring it.

Suitable for families with children ages 7 and up.

Meet at the Interpretive Pavilion on the South Shore Campground.

Join us for a wet and wild search for life in Lake Nummy. This program will explore the animals that live in the waterways at Belleplain State Forest including insects, frogs, turtles and fish. Participants will be introduced to life cycles, food chains and how the creatures that live in the water can tell us how clean it is.

Suitable for children of all ages.

Meet at the Interpretive Center.

$10 per car entrance fee to the park.

Did you know that June is Great Outdoors Month? Come celebrate at High Point by exploring Sawmill Lake with the park naturalist, and then continue your explorations on your own using High Point's new Discovery Packs. Each pack contains an assortment of tools and field guides to help you explore and discover on your own as well as a take-home discovery guide full of fun outdoor activity ideas, resources, and suggestions for how to use the tools contained in the pack. Packs must be returned to the Interpretive Center by 4 p.m.

Suitable for families with children ages 4 to 10.

"X" marks the spot! Join the park naturalist on a fun and exciting treasure hunt with a modern twist. Learn all about the popular activities of Earthcaching and Geocaching, adventure games for GPS (global positioning system) users, and enjoy finding one of the park's caches with your family. GPS units will be available for you to borrow, but if you already have one please bring it. Please bring a small trinket to leave in the cache.

Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey is pleased to co-sponsor a series of Get Outdoors! events with New Jersey Parks and Forestry and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Come on out and experience a naturalist-led canoe tour of Batsto Lake. The lake is nearly a mile and a half long, nestled deep in the interior of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Batsto Lake offers the canoeist the opportunity to experience wetlands typical of the region. Atlantic white cedar, blueberries, cranberries and carnivorous plants line the lake’s shore. The carpenter frog, red belly turtle, great blue heron and bald eagle are among the many forms of animal life that can be observed here.

Suitable for families with children ages 8 and up.

Meet at the Nature Center (by the lake), Batsto Village, Wharton State Forest.

$5 per car entrance fee to the park.
