Indiana Bat

Hi I'm the Indiana bat or Myotis sodalis. I'd like to tell you about my diet, how I benefit the environment and where I live. Do you want to read more about me. Do you? Well I do .

Well, let's start with my diet first. I eat a lot of different kinds of nocturnal flying creatures and terrestrial insects. I catch them along rivers, lakes and high areas. Some of the things I eat are moths, flies, alfalfa weevils and other insects.

Now my habitat is caves and abandoned mines. After I hibernate I migrate to summer roosts, which are edges of hardwood forests. Some of my homes can hold up to 80,000 bats. Some of my other homes can hold about 100 female bats! Wow that is a lot of female bats! That was where I live.

How do I help the environment? Well read more to find out. I benefit the environment by eating insects. I keep the insects under control, so they don't get overpopulated. I also eat annoying insects like the alfalfa weevils and gypsy moths. My presence adds to the biotical diversity of forest communities.

Well now you know about me. You know my diet, my benefit for the environment and where I live. Did you like learning about me? I know I did! But wait! I help you, can you help me? I am little but I can help a lot!
