Congratulations to the winners of Conserve Wildlife Foundation’s Species on the Edge 2.0 social media contest for New Jersey high school students.
Students from all over the state took part in the contest by creating a series of social media posts focusing on one of New Jersey’s vulnerable species. The contest gives students the chance to use their social media skills, and knowledge of wildlife biology, to help imperiled species.
First Place: Virginia Higgins, Arthur P. Schalick High School,
Pittsgrove, New Jersey
Virginia’s posts on the piping plover were illustrated with her original artwork, bringing these tiny birds to life through her artistic vision. Her series included posts on the piping plover’s diet, life cycle, habitat, why they are threatened, and more. Congratulations Virginia!
Second Place: Rory Leadbeater, Toms River High School North,
Toms River, New Jersey
Rory’s posts on the horseshoe crab combined original photography, graphics and animations and took an in-depth look at the crab’s anatomy, history, life cycle, and more. Great job Rory!
Third Place: Lauren Johnson, Sparta High School,
Sparta, New Jersey
Lauren created an engaging and informative series of posts on the piping plover that covered their habitat, diet, and life cycle as well as threats to the birds. She recapped her posts in this summary collage highlighting the graphics she put together. Thanks for helping piping plovers Lauren!
