Celebrate Endangered Species Day
Each year on the third Friday in May, the United States celebrates National Endangered Species Day. It is a chance for people of all ages to celebrate and learn about endangered species and how to protect them. Here are 5 ways you can celebrate New Jersey’s wildlife virtually, individually, and locally to stay safe during the corona virus crisis. Without the Endangered Species Act there wouldn’t be as many species in New Jersey to celebrate.
1. Enjoy the birds-eye view with our live streaming Osprey Cam.
2. Listen to our engaging climate change and wildlife podcast. Our monthly series, State of Change, releases a new episode every month focusing on different species impacted by climate change, each featuring experts in that field. Start with Beach Nesting Birds.
3. Watch our Backyard Safari Series. You don’t have to travel to see amazing wildlife. New Jersey is home to many amazing species. Go on safari in your own back yard! Start with The Antlion’s Trap.
4. Take your kids on a local adventure! Use our urban wildlife or city scavenger hunt activities on a local walk, or in your backyard.
5. Join CWF educator Melody as she goes birding in her own backyard. You’ll learn how to use the Merlin Bird ID app by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology as a tool to identify any birds you may see in your backyard, on a walk through the neighborhood, or even right through your windows at home! Happy birding!
